The “w” variants add built-in Wi-Fi 6. Figures are Sophos datasheet values measured under ideal test conditions; real throughput depends on the services you enable.
Start from your user count, your internet bandwidth and how much traffic you need to inspect. A firewall should have headroom above today’s load, because enabling IPS, web filtering and TLS inspection all reduce usable throughput. For an office that only needs a couple of VPN tunnels and a few hundred Mbps of inspected traffic, the XGS 88 is usually enough. Add remote workers, site-to-site links or 10 GE uplinks and the step up to the Sophos XGS 138 makes sense.
Sophos also offers rack-mount XGS models — XGS 210, 230, 310, 330, 430, 450, 550, 650, 750 and 850 — for data-centre and high-availability deployments with redundant power and modular expansion. The same Sophos Central console manages the entire series.
